We are pleased to have had Dr. Nnimmo Bassey as a keynote speaker at the 2021 International Symposium on Security and Peace.
Nnimmo Bassey is an architect and director of the ecological think-tank, Health of Mother Earth Foundation (HOMEF) based in Nigeria and a member of the steering committee of Oilwatch International – a network resisting the expansion of fossil fuels extraction in the Global South. He was chair of Friends of the Earth International (2008-2012). He was a co-recipient of the 2010 Right Livelihood Award also known as the “Alternative Noble Prize.” In 2012 he received the Rafto Human Rights Award. He also received an honorary doctorate from the University of York, UK, in 2019.
Bassey’s books include To Cook a Continent – Destructive Extraction and the Climate Crisis in Africa and Oil Politics – Echoes of Ecological War.
At the #ISSP2021, he discussed The Roots of Extractivist and Climate Conflicts.
