Over the past weeks, the Center for Peace and Violence Prevention has worked closely with the Nigerian Embassy in Romania, to help coordinate the evacuation efforts of Nigerian and other African students seeking refuge in Romania.
So far, over 1,000 Nigerian students have been evacuated through the Romanian – Ukrainian borders, and already a good number of them have been repatriated to Nigeria. Thanks to the leadership of Her Excellency, Safiya Ahmad Nuhu, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Romania, and the Embassy Staff: Mr. Dayo, Mr. Kingsley, and Mr. Hamza among others, who stood in the cold day and night to receive the students as they crossed into Romania.
More students are still trapped across the border in Ukraine, and efforts are being made to reach them.
We are grateful to Prof. Daniel David, Rector of Babes-Bolyai University, to Prof. Calin Hintea, Dean of FSPAC, and to the Management staff of UBB for sending us two large buses for transportation. Special thanks to Prof. Marian Preda, Rector of the University of Bucharest, for accommodating some of the students. We are thankful to Mr. Dragos Anastasiu and Eurolines Romania / Rombus Transport, for sending additional buses to convey the students from the border cities to Bucharest. Their intervention helped speed up all our evacuation efforts immensely!
